COLCHESTER-based singer-songwriter Jazmine Ava is really riding the crest of a creative wave at the moment with the release of her new album.

The darling of the local music scene, Jazmine, along with her band, launched her second album, Set Me On Fire, just before Christmas at the Riverlodge in Colchester.

Early signs seem to indicate the album is another hit, jam-packed with foot-tapping numbers.

At times, Set Me On Fire is a New York jazz scene jam-packed with saxophones and jiggy electric guitars, while at others it’s classic country.

Jazmine’s own vocals sometimes have an Edith Piaf reverb quality to them, but wow do they pack a punch, especially on the more bluesy numbers.

As well as being involved with promoting live events with sister Shaloam, Jazmine has been playing gigs to promote the recording.

Jazmine started her musical career in Brighton, where she released her debut album Sunshine and Shadows in 2007.

She returned to her Essex home two years ago and set about getting like-minded musicians around her.

The Jazmine Ava band is now made up of Geoff Clark (lead guitar), Ken Flatt (bass), Christopher Daniels (saxophone) and Cameron Morrell (drums).
