FANCY playing a venue that has hosted the likes of Coldplay, the Strokes and the Killers?

Well that’s the chance on offer for readers of Soundcheck who just happen to be in a local band.

On February 18, Colchester’s one to watch for 2010, Angry Vs the Bear, will be playing their first headline gig at the Colchester Arts Centre and rather appropriately, staff at the Church Street venue want to give another local band a support slot to showcase their talents.

Over the past year, Angry Vs the Bear have been making quite a bit of a name for themselves, attracting some important fans, including producer Simon Gogelly, who has worked with the likes of Gwen Stefani and U2.

They also plan to return to the famous South by South West music festival in Austen, Texas, in March where last year they were among just a handful of unsigned groups to play.

With a possible management and record deal in the offing, this year could be theirs.

It all starts on February 18 at the arts centre.

If your band wants to join them, all you have to do is send in your most recent demo to: Neil D’Arcy-Jones, Gazette Soundcheck, 43 North Hill, Colchester, Essex. CO1 1TZ. Entries to arrive no later than January 29.

A panel of judges will then choose the winning band, who will support Angry Vs the Bear at the gig.

For tickets, priced £6, call the box office on 01206 500900.
