A CARE home in Colchester is being investigated after allegations over the welfare of a resident.

The complaint about Maple Court, in Berechurch Hall Road, has been lodged with both the Care Quality Commission and Essex County Council’s social services department.

It is unclear exactly what the complaints centre around, but are believed to concern the care of at least one patient.

A former employee, who did not want to be named, claimed some members of staff have recently resigned in protest at the management of the ten-bed home, which caters for people with learning disabilities.

Michael Page, Essex County Council spokesman, said: “Essex County Council is investigating one incident concerning a service user at Maple Court care home in Colchester.

“The operator is fully complying with our enquiry. As the investigation is still ongoing, we are unable to comment further at this stage.”

Louise Grifferty, a spokesman for the Care Quality Commission, said: “The Care Quality Commission is aware of the situation concerning Maple Court and is working with its partner agencies to determine the most appropriate way forward.

“The commission will take action if required.”

No-one from Maple Court has responded to the Gazette’s enquiries.
