AN investigation has been launched after beach huts were destroyed following a suspected arson in Dovercourt.
Fire crews from Dovercourt, Manningtree and Weeley were called to the blaze, in Wick Lane, at about 9.35pm on Friday.
Two of the huts were destroyed and two others were scorched, causing more than £10,000 damage.
A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters used two hose reels to tackle a fire, involving four beach huts situated close to the rugby club in Wick Lane.
“Initially two appliances were sent to tackle the incident, but on arrival, the officer in charge ordered an additional crew to assist in firefighting operations.”
He said the blaze was put out by 10.15pm and an investigation will be carried out to establish its cause.
