FIREFIGHTERS had to cut the roof off a car after it left the road, landing in a ditch.

A female passenger suffered neck injuries after the Red Mondeo she was travelling in left the road.

The accident happened in Maldon Road, Colchester, on Friday about 6am.

Fire crews from Tiptree and Coggeshall attended the scene and cut the roof of the car so ambulance crews could get to the injured female.

Sub officer Brian Harper, from Colchester Fire, said: “A car appeared to come out of Loamy Hill, across the junction, and into a ditch.

“A female passenger was trapped inside the vehicle suffering from neck injuries, she had no other physical injuries but paramedics wanted to put her on a stretcher so we had to take the roof off the vehicle.”

The woman was taken to Colchester General Hospital.
