It is very depressing to see Clacton Shopmobility may be closing at the end of 2009 for lack of funding.
Unfortunately, employing staff is expensive, but there is still time to move to a completely volunteer operation.
Locally, Colchester Shopmobility has been using up its reserves for years.
The 2008 accounts showed costs were £64,270 and the recent council consultation indicated an average 84 scooter hires each month at St Mary’s car park.
That means each hire cost £63.76, while users were charged £2.
My proposed bus park service will be all volunteer, so low cost and not reliant on uncertain public funding.
