A COLCHESTER post office has reopened after being closed for more than two years.
Berechurch Road Post Office closed in 2007 as part of Government cutbacks.
Service resumed yesterday after Essex County Council stepped in and helped to bankroll the start-up costs.
Sub-postmaster Harendra Patel said: “We are looking forward to becoming an integral part of the local community again.”
As well as traditional post office services, customers will be able to access a Community Information Point to connect to Essex County Council services and useful websites such as Directgov, NHS Direct and local interest sites.
Lord Hanningfield, leader of the council, said: “I am delighted Essex County Council has been able to support this post office.”
The newsagents stayed open after the post office closed, but Mr Patel said he was glad to be able to offer the extra services.
