Now the results of the offshore wind farm planning appeal are in, Clacton residents should congratulate themselves that they have moved one small step closer to the Government target, for our area, of 10 per cent of our electricity from renewables by 2010 and 20 per cent by 2020.

We still have a long way to go yet.

From next year, new Government grants mean we can take more steps in that direction and make money in the process.

New support for solar electricity and hot water panels in homes, means we can receive up to 8 per cent return on the money we invest in home and business renewable energy installations.

With the interest on bank deposits being so low, this looks like a win-win situation as a way to earn money from our savings and do our bit to meet our local energy targets.
