TIPTREE got into the festive spirit in style at its first Edwardian Christmas Fair.

Church Street was packed with revellers, who enjoyed a merry-go-round, hog roast, arts and crafts demonstrations, tractor rides and various stalls.

Michael McKell, who starred in the film Essex Boys, turned on the Christmas lights, while Molly Conlin, who plays Dotty Cotton, in EastEnders, signed autographs.

Thursday’s event also included performances from local bands, choirs, schoolchildren, bell ringers and morris dancers.

Steve Bays, one of the organisers, said he was amazed how well the evening had gone, because it was only planned last month.

He added: “It was absolutely unbelievable. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in the village.

“The best thing has been how much time and enthusiasm people have donated to make it happen.”

Mr Bays said he wanted to thank his fellow organisers, everyone who gave their services free of charge, and the police, some of whom dressed in traditional Edwardian clothes.

A meeting is being planned to decide if the fair will be held again next year.
