AN annual football game to commemorate Britain’s victory in reclaiming the Falkland Islands from Argentine invaders, has been won by the Royal Marines.

The Marines beat the Colchester-based Parachute Regiment 3-0 to win the Falklands Cup, first played for in 2007 to mark 25 years since the conflict.

Sgt Neil Northcott, the Paras’ manager, said he was “a bit gutted” at the result.

He said: “The game was very competitive and, while the Marines deserved to win, I didn’t think the score was a fair reflection of the game.”

A crowd of more than 500 fans turned up for Thursday night’s match, at Abbey Field, Colchester. Collections were held for the Central Fund of the Parachute Regiment and Help for Heroes.
