ASPECIAL community day is being held to celebrate Weston Homes Community Stadium’s first birthday.

Run by the Colchester United Community Sport Trust, the fun-packed family day is being lined-up at the stadium in United Way, on Sunday.

Entry is free and the attractions include tours of the stadium at 10.30am, noon, 1.30pm and 3pm, plus question and answer sessions with Colchester United legends at 11.15am and 2.15pm.

To prove that the stadium is not just about football, the day will also offer a chance to trip the light fantastic to the sounds of the roaring Twenties, Thirties and Forties at a tea dance.

Ragroof Theatre will host the dance from 1pm to 4pm and people of all ages and experience are invited to join in.

There will also be healthy cookery activities for kids and the chance to try the Blendavenda – a smoothie maker powered by an exercise bike. Other healthy options are mini health checks and massage sessions.

For the little ones, there will be a bouncy castle, face painting in aid of the NSPCC, a chance to make a party hat and creative activities organised by staff from Shrub End Children’s Centre.

Steve Bradshaw, Colchester United chief executive, said: “Colchester United are delighted to be a part of this day.

“We are working to be a true community partner and a day such as this provides a great opportunity to open the stadium to the local community and show them our fantastic facilities.

“The stadium is a model of community involvement and days such as this can only help us develop its key role in the area.”
