A MAN has returned safely to his family after going missing for a week.
Dean Carter disappeared from his home in Coppice End, Colchester, last Tuesday and was reported missing by his family.
The 34-year-old suffers from depression and had left behind his medication, along with his wallet, mobile phone and money.
Police undertook searches in the High Woods area, including the country park, but were unable to find him.
His parents, Linda and Steven, made appeals through the Gazette for information about his whereabouts. Last night they contacted the Gazette to say Dean had returned home safe and sound.
Steven said: “He has just walked through the door and we’re just relieved to have him home safe and sound.
“He’s been missing for seven days and it’s been awful for us.
“We think he was somewhere close by, but now we’re just making sure he gets something to eat.”
He added: “We just wanted to say thank you for your help in looking for him.”
The initial description released by police said Dean was barefoot and dishevelled and they were concerned because he had not taken food or drink with him.
Areas of High Woods Country Park were combed in the search for Dean because he worked as a volunteer park ranger.
Roger Grimwade, a spokesman for Essex Police, said: “We have officers on the way to see the family and speak to Dean.
“At the moment we don’t know what the situation is, but if he is home safe and well we share his family’s relief.”
