A UNIQUE band of musicians are performing at the High Barn.

The Mediaeval Baebes will perform at the Great Bardfield venue next Wednesday as part of a five date UK tour.

It coincides with the launch of their sixth studio album, Illumination, which has been produced by KK, who has previously worked with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears and Dido.

Band member Katharine Blake said: “We are delighted to be going to Essex and looking forward to performing the songs live from Illumination.

“We are incredibly proud of this album and feel it has taken us in a new direction without losing our very unique sound.”

Formed in 1996, the Mediaeval Baebes are an all-female group made up of Katharine Blake, Claire Rabbitt, Emily Ovenden, Bev Lee Harling, Esther Dee and Melpomeni Kermanidou.

They are inspired by medieval texts and setting them to original scores with the use of classical and medieval musical instruments, while singing in long forgotten languages.

Performing across the world and selling more than 450,000 records, the Baebes’ contribution to the BBC production of The Virgin Queen, composed by Martin Phipps, resulted in an Ivor Novello award in 2007 for best television soundtrack.

Tickets for the concert are £15. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
