TENNIS is being brought to youngsters in Colchester who might miss out on the sport, thanks to a new initiative.

James Barnard and Rob Twyman, Lawn Tennis Association licensed coaches, who are both from Colchester, are trying to change people’s opinion of the sport with their scheme, called Making Waves.

Mr Twyman, 29, said it owes much of its success to Colchester Institute. He said: “To create more opportunites for young people in Colchester, the college has provisionally granted Making Aces a 21-year lease on the eight tennis courts at its Spring Lane site.

“From there, Making Aces can operate a successful training facility that links into all the primary schools in Colchester.

He added: “Tennis can be perceived as being a bit elitist and we want to get the message across that it is not just for people with money.”
