A NEW market, which council leaders believe could boost a struggling town centre, is still no closer to being realised.
Essex County Council’s highways office carried out a study into traffic flow in Dovercourt town centre last year for Tendring Council.
It was hoped the study would pave the way for a market which would help encourage people to shop in the High Street and revitalise the town.
However, now the study has been completed, the market is still no closer to fruition.
Speaking at a Harwich conservation panel meeting, chairman, Andy Rutter, said: “The county council have taken a long time to conduct the study and now the results haven’t even been made public.
“We want to know when this is going to happen.”
Phil Hornby, conservation manager at Tendring Council, said although the study had been completed, no decisions had been made on taking action.
He said: “The study has now been done, but where we take that in terms of improving the town centre is yet to be decided.
“The original plan was to have a market near to the train station, but the new study suggests the market should go in the High Street.”
