TALKS have started to find an alternative site for a controversial mobile mast given the go-ahead after a bureaucratic blunder.

Colchester Council turned down an application from O2 for the 12m mast at the junction of Norman Way and Lexden Road two days after a deadline for the decision.

The error prompted a furious reaction from residents.

David Whybrow, the authority’s development manager, said that the firm was willing to negotiate.

Angela Johnson, of O2, said there would be a meeting with the council today.
