X-FACTOR winner Steve Brookstein will be singing for his supper at a Colchester restaurant later this month.

Steve was the very first winner of the popular television song contest and, as part of the evening, diners will get two for the price of one, with Steve’s up-and- coming jazz-singing wife, Eileen Hunter, performing as well.

Steve shot to fame when he won the first series of The X-Factor show in 2004. A number one hit single, Against All Odds, and a number one album, Heart and Soul, followed and since then he has toured the country and starred in the musical, Our House, based on Madness’s hit songs.

Now Patrick Benois, owner of Gastro 1603 at the Old Siege House in East Street, has pulled off a coup by getting the pair to sing at his restaurant on February 27.

Steve said: “I’m sure I played a gig many, many years ago in Colchester but I honestly can’t remember where.

“I’m really looking forward to performing at Gastro 1603 because I enjoy an intimate setting, and that’s exactly what we’ll be getting.

“Eileen and I usually perform separately but I occasionally join her on one of her songs. It’s a great mix of jazz and soul and I’m sure people will enjoy it.”
