COMMUTERS faced delays of up to 40 minutes as they travelled into London.
Train services on the Norwich line into London Liverpool Street were delayed after two separate incidents on the route.
People travelling from Colchester were hit by delays of up to 30 minutes from about 6am yesterday, after a signal failure between Diss and Colchester.
This problem was fixed by 6.30am, but at shortly after 8am an incident near Stowmarket caused its own set of problems.
A lorry clipped the barrier arm at the Haughley Junction level crossing, while it was down. This caused the arm to swing, and a passing train then struck it, causing minor damage to the train.
The train was immediately stopped at Stowmarket station, and the passengers were transferred to another one.
Network Rail engineers worked to fit a new barrier arm immediately, and services on the northbound line were suspended while the work was carried out.
The Haughley Junction incident is being investigated by British Transport Police.
