Passengers are being urged to plan ahead due to scheduled railway engineering works across north Essex.

The reminder from GBR Anglia comes as work is due to take place across the region this month, with several routes in Essex set to be affected by track upgrades and maintenance.

Affected areas include Marks Tey, Bures, and Harwich, with passengers advised to check their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel.

Martin Beable, chief operating officer for GBR Anglia, said: "These projects are part of our ongoing investment in a safer, more reliable railway by renewing track, maintaining key infrastructure and investing in our stations, as well as preparing for major Christmas renewals at Forest Gate and Stratford.

"We know service changes can be inconvenient, and I'd like to thank passengers for their patience while this essential work takes place.

"We're working together to minimise disruption wherever possible, and we'd encourage passengers to check their journeys before travelling as some services will be replaced by buses on affected routes and dates."

Among the planned works is a £1 million platform upgrade at Bures station, which will see the full replacement of the platform deck and related improvements to enhance both safety and accessibility.

Other works include rerailing and track maintenance at Marks Tey and Kelvedon, as well as upgrades on the Harwich Town branch line.

Train services will be impacted on selected weekends throughout November.

On Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15, buses will replace trains between Sudbury and Marks Tey.

On Sunday, November 15, buses will also replace services between Ipswich and Colchester, and between Manningtree and Harwich Town.

Train services will continue to run between Norwich and Ipswich, as well as between Colchester and London Liverpool Street.

On Saturday, November 21, and Sunday, November 22, buses will again replace trains between Sudbury and Marks Tey, as well as between Braintree and Witham.

A spokesperson for Greater Anglia said some journeys may take longer and involve rail replacement services.

Passengers are being encouraged to check before travelling and to allow more time to complete their journeys.

The works form part of GBR Anglia’s wider programme of track renewals and station improvements.
