Firefighters rescued two cats after a roof fire spread to a neighbouring home in Epping.
Crews tackled the fire at a semi-detached house this afternoon after flames spread to the neighbouring roof, stopping it spreading further and preventing more damage.
About 40 per cent of the first roof and 20 per cent of the neighbouring roof were damaged, so residents cannot return to the first property yet and the British Red Cross is supporting them.
Watch manager Tony Wakelin of Epping Fire Station said: “Our crews got there quickly and stopped the fire spreading further which helped limit the damage to both homes. I’m also pleased they were able to rescue the two cats.”
Fire investigators recorded the cause as accidental.
