Dozens of people are this morning queuing ahead of the opening of Colchester's newest fast-food restaurant.
Popeyes will officially open in 38 High Street this morning (Friday, September 11) at 11am and long queues of people are stood waiting to be some of the first to take a look.
The chain, founded in New Orleans, is part of the Minerva House development in the former Marks & Spencer building.
To celebrate the launch, the first three customers in the queue have won free chicken sandwiches for a year, with some queuing as early as 2.30am this morning.

The first 100 customers will also receive a free chicken sandwich, and the first 50 will take home Popeyes merchandise.
The opening is part of a wider regeneration project led by developer City and Country, who purchased the site in 2024.
Plans include transforming the location into a mixed-use destination with shops, restaurants, workspaces, and a rooftop bar.
Popeyes openings have become known for attracting sizeable crowds, and the much-anticipated Colchester launch has done the same.
