An Essex school has ushered in a new chapter after officially appointing a new headteacher following more than a decade under its previous leader.
The Stanway School, in Colchester, has announced John Player as its new headteacher, succeeding Jon Bland, who led the school for 12 years.
Mr Player, who has been part of the school's senior leadership team for several years, said he was proud to take on the role and continue building on the school's success.
He said: "Having been at the school for a number of years, I have seen first-hand the difference it can make to students and our local community.
"I am immensely proud to take on the leadership of this school and to be supported by such strong staff who always do all they can for our students."
Mr Player brings more than 20 years of experience in education to the position, including seven years serving as deputy headteacher and head of school at The Stanway School.
Before joining the Colchester school, he held teaching and leadership roles in South Woodham Ferrers and Burnham-on-Crouch.
He takes on the role following the departure of Mr Bland in July, who left to take up a full-time senior position with the Sigma Trust.
Mr Bland first joined The Stanway School in 2008 and became headteacher six years later.
During his tenure, the school developed a strong reputation for academic achievement and community engagement, with Mr Bland widely credited for overseeing its continued growth and success.
Mr Player said maintaining those high standards and strengthening the school's role within the local community would be central to his vision as headteacher.
He said: "Building on that reputation, I want the school to continue to offer the best possible experience for all our pupils.

Looking ahead, Mr Player said he was excited about the opportunities facing the school and was determined to ensure pupils continue to thrive both academically and personally.
He added that he is eager to work with staff, students, parents and the wider community to help The Stanway School achieve even more in the years ahead.
