A NATIONAL campaign is calling on Colchester residents to consider leaving a gift to museums in their will.
Remember a Charity Week runs from September 7 to 13, and Colchester Museums Development Foundation (CMDF) is highlighting how legacy giving can help protect Colchester’s museums, collections, and stories for future generations.
The foundation supports Colchester Castle and the Natural History Museum, and helps preserve and share the heritage which shapes the city.
Darius Laws, councillor responsible for culture, heritage and environment, said: "Colchester’s museums hold the stories, objects and memories that help define who we are as a city.
"A gift in your will is a deeply meaningful way to protect that heritage, support learning and conservation, and ensure our collections continue to inspire residents and visitors for generations to come.
"However people choose to give, their support will make a lasting difference."
Legacy gifts can support research, learning programmes, conservation and collections care.
These donations help keep Colchester’s history accessible, relevant, and inspiring for generations to come.

There are several ways to support CMDF, including becoming a Museum Guardian member, making a general online donation, leaving a gift in your will, or symbolically adopting one of the museum’s objects.
Online object adoption starts from £10 and helps fund the care of Colchester Museums’ collections.
