A commercial flight bound for a popular Spanish holiday destination was forced to divert to Stansted Airport this morning.
The Ryanair service, which departed East Midlands Airport for Malaga at 9.27am, instead landed at Stansted at around 10.41am on Thursday, September 4.
FlightRadar24 data shows the aircraft entered a holding pattern over the Royston area, near Saffron Walden, completing several circuits before heading towards Stansted.
The reason for the diversion remains unclear, although unconfirmed reports suggest the aircraft may have suffered a bird strike.
Emergency services, including fire crews, were seen on standby at Stansted around the time of the plane's arrival, as is the normal procedure for when a plane diverts to the Essex airport.

A Stansted Airport spokesman said: "A Ryanair flight from East Midlands to Malaga made a precautionary landing at London Stansted at around 11.40 today.
"The aircraft landed safely."
Ryanair has been contacted for comment.
