Rail passengers are facing significant delays throughout the day after a track defect forced trains to operate at reduced speeds.
The defect between Thorpe-le-Soke and Walton-on-the-Naze is affecting Greater Anglia services from Colchester to the coastal town.
A speed restriction has been put in place due to the faulty track.
Greater Anglia has advised passengers to allow extra time for their journeys, as delays are expected to continue until the end of the day.
A Greater Anglia spokesman said: "Trains between Thorpe-le-Soken and Walton-on-the-Naze are running at a 20mph speed restriction because of reports of a defective track.
"Train services running to and from these stations will be delayed.
"Disruption is expected until the end of the day."

Some trains may be cancelled or have altered stopping patterns.
Passengers who normally change at Thorpe-le-Soken for services to London Liverpool Street are advised to change at Colchester instead.
Greater Anglia and Network Rail have apologised for the disruption.
Advance purchase ticket holders will be allowed to travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.
Passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more are eligible to claim compensation through the Delay Repay scheme.
