A FIELD fire is affecting around five hectares of land near Colchester.
Six crews of around 30 firefighters are currently at the scene in Seven Star Green, near Turkey Cock Lane.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Crews are currently working to surround a field fire affecting five hectares. Please avoid the area.”
Residents nearby are urged to keep windows and doors closed if they notice smoke, and drivers should avoid Turkey Cock Lane while crews continue tackling the blaze.
Locals are reporting surrounding roads have become congested. One woman said: "We were heading towards Halstead from A12 just past the turning for Cricketers Pub and drove into very thick smoke and ash falling, so we reversed and came via Aldham."
