A MAN sustained injuries to the head in an early morning assault near a supermarket.
Essex Police received reports of a man who was attacked in an underpass close the Tesco Superstore in Greenstead Road, Colchester, at around 2.10am this morning.
The man was left with injuries to his head and eye from multiple suspects.
The victim is receiving treatment in hospital and the force’s investigation is ongoing.
Greenstead Ward Councillor Tim Young said: “This sounds like a horrific incident, and I would appeal to anyone who has information to report it to the police.
“It’s rare for an assault or violent conduct to take place in this area.

“The underpass should have CCTV installed so, hopefully, that will assist the police in their investigation.”
Greenstead resident and former councillor Elizabeth Alake-Akinyemi said: “I am really sorry to hear about what has happened to the man affected.
“The underpass is very well used and I have never heard of such event happening at the underpass, what has happened is worrying, especially as this underpass serves as an important link to Tesco and the Hythe Train Station.
“If anyone knows anything that can assist the police in their investigation, they should kindly share."

Essex Police is appealing for anyone with information to step forward.
