A new restaurant which could potentially arrive in Colchester has begun advertising for an exciting new role.

Wingstop, the chicken wing chain known for its flavours and fast-paced service, looks set to open a new branch in Colchester, with a shift manager role at the centre of day-to-day operations.

The shift manager will be responsible for leading a new team, ensuring customer service, and maintaining high standards in food quality, speed, and cleanliness from the moment the doors open.

Wingstop UK said: "At Wingstop, we’re not just in the chicken business, we’re in the flavour business.

"Creating memorable experiences for our customers and team is what we do best, and we’ve got the awards to prove it (Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2024 and 2025 and Deliveroo’s Restaurant of the Year).

"But our mission remains simple: bring the flavour."

The company describes the shift manager role as ideal for someone who enjoys variety, energy, and the challenge of shaping a new restaurant from the ground up.

Key responsibilities include leading shifts, supporting the restaurant launch, coaching the team, driving consistent performance, and contributing to early-stage growth.

Applicants are expected to have prior supervisory experience, enthusiasm for new openings, strong leadership skills, and a positive, adaptable attitude.

Benefits of the role include a quarterly bonus scheme, flexible rotas, free food on every shift, employee discounts, 28 days of holiday plus a birthday day off, and structured leadership development through the “Step Up” programme.

The shift manager position in Colchester offers the opportunity to become part of the brand’s continued growth.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to bring their “authentic self” to the process and share their genuine experience and enthusiasm.

Where could Wingstop be?

It could soon arrive in Colchester, with plans to convert the Hooray Henry cocktail bar on Head Street into its latest restaurant.

If approved, it would become Wingstop’s sixth location in Essex, joining existing sites in Basildon, Southend, Chelmsford, Thurrock, and Harlow.

Planning documents submitted to Colchester Council propose external changes to the Hooray Henry venue, including illuminated signage and updated shopfront branding.

No opening date has yet been confirmed, and the plans relate purely to the company’s visual identity on the site.

The application suggests the city centre unit, which only opened as a cocktail bar late last year, could soon switch from nightlife to a quick-service food offering.
