Essex residents urged to explore their county this summer

The Hello Essex initiative launched this week with a photocall at Danbury Country Park, bringing together councillors and council teams.

The campaign aims to highlight attractions across the county, including its coastline, countryside, towns and heritage sites.

Organisers say the project will help residents rediscover places on their doorstep while supporting local businesses and venues.

At the centre of the launch was a large “Hello Essex” sign, symbolising the campaign’s message to connect people with their communities.

Councillor Peter Harris, leader of Essex County Council, said: “Hello Essex is about celebrating the places, people, experiences and local businesses that make our county and community such a brilliant place to live, work and visit. 

“This summer, we want to encourage residents and visitors to look again at what is around them, discover new events, places and activities, and actively support the local attractions, businesses, venues and high streets that bring our communities to life.

“From outdoor adventures and family activities to cultural events and community celebrations, there is so much to enjoy across Essex this July – and we want everyone to feel part of it.”

The campaign brings together a wide range of tourism, cultural and community activities under one banner.

Throughout July, the Hello Essex campaign will showcase a wide range of activities taking place across the county’s coast, countryside, villages, towns and cities.

Residents will be able to take part in experiences including the Butterfly Trail at Belhus Woods Country Park, as well as outdoor adventures like sailing sessions offered through Essex Outdoors.

Creative and heritage events will also feature across the programme, with workshops planned at Cressing Temple Barns and talks taking place at the Essex Record Office.

Community events will play a key role too, with highlights including the Great Basildon Community Feast.

Officials say the campaign is designed to create a stronger sense of belonging while encouraging people to engage with their communities.
