Essex residents are being urged not to ignore possible cancer symptoms after research found many are putting off contacting their GP.
Research from Cancer Research UK shows around 32 per cent of people who noticed a "red flag" symptom did not contact their GP within six months.
The findings highlight ongoing barriers to early diagnosis, including difficulty getting appointments, busy lifestyles and people choosing to manage symptoms on their own.
Red flag symptoms can include unexplained lumps, persistent difficulty swallowing, unexplained bleeding, or sudden weight loss.
Health experts say most referrals do not lead to a cancer diagnosis, but early checks remain crucial to rule out serious conditions.

Michelle Mitchell, Cancer Research UK chief executive, said: “Nearly one in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, that’s why it’s so important to spot cancer early - when treatment is more likely to be successful.
“Support is there for people who notice something that’s not right for them and we’ve partnered with Tesco to support early diagnosis of cancer.
"Through our partnership, it’s easier for people to talk to a professional about any concerns, which we hope will save lives.”
The figures come as Cancer Research UK continues its partnership with Tesco to improve access to advice through pharmacy services.

More than 350 Tesco stores now have trained pharmacists who can offer guidance on symptoms and next steps without requiring an appointment.
Patients can speak confidentially with pharmacists about any concerns and receive advice on whether to contact their GP.
One example is Carlton Hayman, who sought help after experiencing difficulty swallowing and was later diagnosed at a treatable stage.
Officials say such early conversations can make a significant difference in outcomes and recovery rates.
Tom Lye, Tesco health and wellness category director, said: “Tesco pharmacists are often a convenient and trusted first point of contact for our customers and colleagues who have health concerns.
“Our pharmacists are on hand in over 350 large Tesco stores to offer support, and help people take the next step if something doesn’t feel right.”
