A stretch of the A12 has reopened after a serious collision earlier this afternoon.

The incident took place near Witham between Junctions 23 and 24, causing significant delays and tailbacks.

Both carriageways were temporarily closed while emergency services dealt with the scene.

Although both directions have now reopened, one lane remains closed northbound, and motorists are being advised to plan their journey ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

Essex Police are leading the response and have been contacted for a comment.

There are currently delays of 10 minutes, according to National Highways.
