Search the Public Notice PortalColchester MP Pam Cox has said she is confident the council will ensure the city is accessible and affordable for motorists ahead of the closure of a major car park later this year.
Britannia car park will be out of action late this summer as builders prepare for a project which, it is hoped, will regenerate the area around St Botolph’s Priory.
It is not known when – or for how long – the car park will close.
In the future the plan is to shut the car park permanently but a date for this has not been confirmed.
Colchester Council has said the city has capacity to cope with the closure in the form of other city centre car parks.
Ms Cox said she is looking forward to seeing how the project will improve the city.
She said: “I have long campaigned for more to be done to celebrate our heritage and the work around St Botolph’s Priory will do just that.
“I look forward to seeing the results when work is completed as I know many residents will as well.
“Changes to car parking in the city centre will impact people and I expect many motorists will have their favoured spots to park.
“I know our council will want to ensure Colchester city centre remains a place attractive to workers, shoppers and visitors including making other car parks affordable and accessible.”
