A NEW regular market is launching in the city centre with street food, live music, and a friendly atmosphere this weekend.
Sundays on the Square in St Nicholas Square is kicking off on March 8, where people can slow down, meet friends and family, and enjoy being in the city centre at the end of the week.
The market is founded by Charlie Spencer-Gray, who had great success last year with the launch of The Rec Community Market at Old Heath Recreation Ground.
Families come to enjoy a free, welcoming space which supports local businesses and offer an opportunity for residents to socialise.
There were also special themed markets for Halloween and Christmas, much to everyone’s delight.
Mr Spencer-Gray aims to recreate the magic in St Nicholas Square, with a mix of local traders, street food, and live music from the city’s bursting music scene.
Each market will feature four different musicians who are independent artists from Colchester and the surrounding areas, creating a lively but laid-back atmosphere.
The market is free to attend and family and dog friendly. Local residents, traders and musicians have been hugely supportive and excited for the market to begin.

Mr Spencer-Gray is most excited to see St Nicholas Square used as a busy and welcoming social space full of life.
He said: “Sundays on the Square is about bringing real energy into Colchester’s city centre on a day that’s traditionally been quieter.
“It’s completely free, built around supporting local traders and musicians, and designed to give people a genuine reason to come into town, discover something new and stay for the afternoon.
“With up to 35 local traders and live music throughout the day, we’re excited to see it become a regular first-Sunday fixture for the city.”
The market is highly likely to strengthen the local economy, support independent traders and creatives, and make better use of shared public spaces.
Sundays on the Square will take place on the second Sunday of every month, starting this Sunday, March 8.
