Colchester Rollerworld returns with 'one day' special event

Held on Saturday January 31, skaters of all ages filled Charter Hall in Cowdray Avenue for a day celebrating rollerskating, inclusion and community spirit.

Hosted by the Rollerworld Foundation, the event marked another milestone since Rollerworld’s long-running Moorside venue closed in November 2022 after more than 30 years.

Now operating as a foundation, Rollerworld continues to bring skating back to the community through regular pop-up events across Ipswich, with SuperRoll being one of its most ambitious to date.

The day featured three carefully planned sessions designed to make skating accessible to everyone.

The morning began with a relaxed, sensory-friendly session from 11am to 12pm, providing a calmer environment with adjusted lighting and sound levels. This session was warmly received by families and individuals who benefit from a more inclusive skating experience, setting a positive tone for the rest of the day.

From midday through to 5pm, Charter Hall was alive with energy during the family skate session. Open to all ages, including under-14s accompanied by an adult, the session saw parents, children and grandparents sharing the rink together. The atmosphere was vibrant yet welcoming, with many attendees commenting on how special it was to see multiple generations skating side by side.

The evening session, running from 7pm to 11.30pm, transformed the venue into a classic roller disco for skaters aged 14 and over.

Music, lights and confident skaters brought a lively end to the day, rounding off the event on a high.

Skate hire was in high demand and sold out quickly in advance, while many attendees brought their own skates, which were checked on entry.

Spectators also turned out in strong numbers, enjoying the action from the sidelines while making use of the food and drink available from Rollerworld and the Charter Hall bar.

SuperRoll truly showcased the Rollerworld Foundation’s commitment to inclusivity, fun and community connection.
