MORE tributes have been paid to four Essex University students just over a year on from a fatal car crash.
Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Daljang Wol, 22, Makyle Bayley, 22, and Anthony TJ Hibbert, 24, died in the early hours of February 1 last year when the car they were travelling in crashed into Dusty’s second-hand store in Magdalen Street, Colchester.
A series of inquests in July last year heard the car was being driven at about 94mph in the early hours of February 1, when driver Mr Bayley lost control of the car.
Around 40 family members and friends travelled to Colchester on Saturday for a vigil at the site where flowers were laid and prayers said.
The Essex Rebels university basketball team which Daljang, Makyle, and TJ played for, held a tribute ahead of the team’s match against Bristol Flyers as well.
More tributes have flooded in, remembering the four students.
Mayor of Colchester, Councillor Michael Lilley, said: “A year on, the loss of these four young students is still deeply felt in Colchester.
“They were part of our city’s life – studying here, contributing to the university community, and building friendships that meant so much to those around them.
“My thoughts are with their families, friends, teammates and everyone at the University of Essex who continues to carry this loss.
“Their memories remain very much a part of our city.”
Pam Cox MP for Colchester, said: “One year on from the tragic deaths of Eva, Daljang, Makyle and TJ, the depth of this loss is still felt across Colchester and far beyond it.
"My thoughts continue to be with their families, friends and the whole community at the University of Essex.
"Their memory will continue to live on with all those who knew them.”
