The son of 80s pop legend Paul Hardcastle is believed to have been killed in a motorcycle crash following a police pursuit.
On Tuesday, Essex Police confirmed a motorcyclist in his 30s had died following a crash on the A414, near Bobbingworth, following a police chase of the motorcyclist.
The motorbike rider and the driver of a van crashed just after 6.30pm on Monday, January 12.
The van driver was arrested and subsequently released.
Essex Police said that the rider was being pursued after a report it had failed to stop for officers earlier in the day.
On Monday night, jazz musician Paul Hardcastle posted a tribute to his son on Facebook.
The ‘19’ singer wrote: “Just to let you know that my super talented son Paul Hardcastle Jnr was in a fatal motorcycle accident earlier and has sadly died.
“RIP son love Dad.”
Professional saxophone player Paul Jr was understood to be 35 years old.
Essex Police would not confirm that the rider was Paul Jr, but said there were no other fatal motorbike crashes in the area on Monday.
According to Paul Jr’s agency, his career as a professional saxophonist began when he was aged 16, and he secured a residency at an Ibiza nightclub just two years later.
His debut single Touch and Go, released in 2010 and produced by his father, reached number one on the Billboard Jazz songs chart in the US.
