Greater Anglia passengers will soon be able to use contactless ticketing at additional Essex stations – here's where.
Greater Anglia has today confirmed that from next month, passengers will be able to use pay as you go contactless ticketing at 20 additional stations across its network.
From December 14, simpler and faster journeys will be available to more customers as contactless ticketing is introduced at more stations across Hertfordshire and Essex, including the Stansted Express route between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport.
The extension of pay as you go contactless ticketing availability will cover the key commuter and airport routes to Southend Victoria, Witham, and Stansted Airport, with key stations such as Southend Airport, Chelmsford, Harlow Town, and Bishops Stortford all set to benefit.
The recently opened Beaulieu Park station is also included.
Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy, said: “Rail ticketing is far too complicated and long overdue an upgrade to bring it into the 21st century.
"Through the expansion of 'tap in, tap out' technology, and shortly through GBR, we’re doing just that and making buying tickets more convenient, more accessible, and more flexible – and ensuring passengers can get the best fares.
“As part of our plan for change, we’re delivering straightforward, stress-free train travel across the south-east, supporting passengers and boosting economic growth, jobs and homes.”
As announced by the Department for Transport, passengers travelling to or from these new pay as you go contactless stations will be able to use their contactless card, phone or smart device to touch in and out at the start and end of their journey.
Pay as you go contactless fares will automatically be calculated and charged based on the time and distance travelled.
Passengers will also benefit from daily and weekly caps when travelling into and within London.

“Alongside our modern fleet of trains and ongoing station improvements, expanding pay as you go contactless ticketing helps us continue to make train travel more convenient, accessible, and attractive for everyone.”
The Department for Transport has announced the next phase of the wider expansion of contactless travel in partnership with Transport for London, and will introduce pay as you go contactless to 50 additional National Rail stations across the south east from next month.
Today’s announcement follows earlier phases that have already delivered simpler travel for passengers on routes operated by c2c, South Western Railway, Thameslink, Southeastern, and London Northwestern Railway earlier this year.
