Colchester is gearing up for another fireworks bonanza in Castle Park as a fan favourite event returns.
The King Coel's Kittens Firework Spectacular returns to the park for its 54th year.
Expected to draw in up to 10,000 people, the Colchester sky will light up with many expected to view the display at various locations around the city.
The event was originally set up by the group which was established in 1962 to raise valuable funds to enable the group to purchase tangible items for groups of people with special needs who live within the district.
Over the years, a number of events have been organised in the town by the group.
In 1970 their first fireworks event took place in Castle Park with a small crowd enjoying a display set off by the members of the group.
The evening starts when the gates open at 5.30pm on Wednesday, with entertainment by Michael J Fitch.
Michael has entertained the crowd for many years encouraging the crowd to join in with singing, competitions and magic.
At 6.45pm the guy is paraded from the entrance to the castle, where it has been guarded by the Colchester town watch, down to the bandstand.
It is then paraded by the beefeaters and town watch into lower Castle Park where he sits until he is taken away on his final journey.
The highlight of the evening then commences with 20 minutes of a spectacular fireworks display with music provided by Dynamics Fireworks.
Chairman of King Coels Kittens, Jackie Bower said: "As chairman of the group I am so grateful to all those people who help to organise the event and make it such a success and to the people who come along whatever the weather to support us.
"When the crowd leave at the end of the evening they always say that was the best one yet.
"Generations of families have attended this event over the years."
Entry can be gained through Castle Gate, Museum Street, Castle Road and both ends of the Folley.
Visitors are advised to have tickets ready to be scanned at the gate.
