The future of Pizza Hut’s dine-in restaurants in Colchester and Clacton is in jeopardy, with jobs and local eateries at risk following a nationwide administration announcement.
The Colchester Turner Rise branch and Clacton’s dine-in site are among 75 restaurants not included in last year’s rescue deal, meaning approximately 741 jobs across these locations in England could be affected.
Staff may face redundancy, and the long-term fate of the restaurants remains uncertain.
Pizza Hut has confirmed that 64 other dine-in sites will continue to operate after being acquired through a pre-packaged administration deal by Yum! Brands.
Around 2,259 employees, including leadership and support teams, will transfer to the new business.
However, Colchester and Clacton's dine-in restaurants were excluded from this arrangement, leaving their future unresolved.
Nicolas Burquier, managing director for international operating markets, said: “This targeted acquisition aims to safeguard our guest experience and protect jobs where possible. Our immediate priority is operational continuity at the acquired locations and supporting colleagues through the transition.”

This development comes just a year after 139 Pizza Hut restaurants and 3,000 jobs were saved in the UK when Directional Capital purchased the struggling chain. At that time, the focus was on protecting takeaway and delivery services, while dine-in restaurants continued to face financial challenges.
Administration is a legal process in which a licensed insolvency practitioner takes control of a company to try to save it or, if that is not possible, to recover funds for creditors.
In practice, this can involve continuing to trade while seeking buyers for the business, or eventually liquidating assets such as restaurant premises, equipment, or intellectual property.
For the Colchester and Clacton branches, this means weeks of uncertainty as administrators assess options.
Nationally, Pizza Hut’s takeaway and delivery services are unaffected, allowing customers to continue enjoying their favourite pizzas.
But for dine-in locations like Turner Rise in Colchester, known for family-friendly meals and children’s parties, the community faces an anxious wait to learn whether these popular venues will survive.
Local diners and staff are being urged to stay informed about updates as administrators work through the process.
While some sites have been secured under Yum! Brands’ plan, the future of Colchester and Clacton Pizza Huts remains unclear.
