Braintree Freeport shoppers discuss councillor on Big Brother

The ITV production stated his removal followed the use of “unacceptable language” by the 23-year-old. 

He was previously issued a warning before his exit from the show, and now may face misconduct action by Finchingfield Parish Council, as the monitoring officer at Braintree District Council has been asked for advice. 

We have asked shoppers at the Braintree Freeport shopping village about their views, whether this is the behaviour residents want to see from their councillors.

Bob and Jackie Pringle, 80 and 77 respectively, said: “It’s not shining the best light on politicians, especially local politicians. There are so many issues out there, which need solving.

“People might get the idea, this is what they are doing when you can’t get hold of them.” 

Marney Lamb, 40, said: “I don’t think councillors or people in an office like this should go on a programme like this, especially if they then present themselves like this in public.” 

Georgina Shippard, 40, said: “When you’re in the public eye, like being on a show like Big Brother , and being a councillor as well, you should think about the way to present yourself.

“Don’t put yourself in a position like this in the first place. 

“People will definitely know now who he is, but it might be for the wrong reasons.” 

Poppy Daisley, 28, said: “I haven’t watched this year’s season, but it’s been all over my social media. 

“Yes, there is freedom of expression, but everyone should aim to express what they want to say mindfully.

“I believe the council should at least have a meeting about it to discuss what is appropriate, what should be done and what can be learnt from this.” 

Reis Beck, 29, added: “It is his job to be visible to the public, but there’s the question of whether it was the right place to do this.”
