The Met Office has given its verdict on the potential of snow after parts of Europe experienced some flurries.

Snowstorms have hit eastern Europe over the past few days, leading some to question whether snow is on the way for the UK.

But the weather service has given its word on whether the country could be in line for some snow.

They have confirmed there is no indication of unseasonable snow hitting the UK.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "There is currently no indication of snow in the forecast.

"The long-range forecast becomes clearer closer to the time, and currently suggests there could be settled conditions next week, thanks to high pressure, and possibly more unsettled weather later in the month.

"Keep an eye on our forecast to stay up to date as October goes on."

Europe hit by snow

There was widespread disruption across the western Balkans on Friday which reportedly left thousands without electricity.

Heavy snow covered hills across mountainous regions of Bosnia and Serbia bringing down distribution lines and trees.

It has been reported more than half a metre of snow has already accumulated at higher altitudes.

It has been suggested it could reach record levels for October.

October forecast for the UK

Rain and drizzle slowly clearing southwards is what is expected across the country for the rest of the week.

Over the weekend high pressure will bring mostly dry conditions, light winds, sunny spells, and near-average temperatures.

But with chilly nights and patchy fog.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be near normal.

In the final-third of the month conditions are predicted to change to more unsettled conditions across the UK, with high pressure slipping away.

Winter safety tips: stay warm, safe, and healthy

There is a greater chance of most if not all places seeing spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds later in the month, and continuing into the start of November.

Colchester follows this trend as the rest of the week is expected to stay dry but is expected to be mainly overcast with sunny and cloudy spells.
