Thousands attend University of Essex Freshers' Fair

Undergraduates flocked to the Colchester Campus on Friday, October 3 to explore societies and learn about the opportunities on offer.

The event saw stalls and societies shelter under the university's brutalist architecture as they signed up new members.

A wide range of activities were on display, from bellringing to boxing, with many stalls offering interactive activities.

One of the most popular stands was the Essex Rebels, which advertised the university's basketball and volleyball sides as the seasons began.

The stand featured a basketball hoop for students to practise their aim.

The women’s basketball team kicked off their season on Saturday, defeating London Lions 81-50 in front of a packed crowd.

As well as internal teams, outside organisations such as Colchester Rugby Club attended the fair, with head coach and former Northampton Saint star Mikey Haywood recruiting for the season.
