A signalling fault at Marks Tey is causing delays on services between Colchester and London.
Some lines are currently blocked at Marks Tey with numerous services affected.
Train services running through this station may be delayed or revised and disruption is expected until further notice.
An X post on the Greater Anglia page said: "Earlier this morning, Network Rail informed us of a fault with the signalling system in the Marks Tey area.
"As a result, trains were running at a reduced speed through the area.
"During their fault finding, the team discovered a defective block joint which is causing the problem."

Between London Liverpool Street and Norwich
Between London Liverpool Street and Ipswich
Between London Liverpool Street and Clacton
Between London Liverpool Street and Colchester Town
To get the signals and the line back to normal running, workmen are said to have taken a block on the line from Colchester towards Marks Tey to replace the defect.
Only on track remains for all trains in the area and as a result, congestion, delays and alterations will occur as the Network Rail response team work to replace the defect.
Some train services may terminate and Start from Colchester.
Some train services may take longer than expected between Colchester and Marks Tey.
