Research has shown more than 15,000 fewer people in the East of England are employed compared with last year.
According to the latest company payroll data released, 15,639 less people were employed across the region from the same month last year - down half a per cent.
By contrast, wages were up at an average of £2,590, an increase of £126 or five per cent.
Overall, the UK payroll showed 30,285,820 people were employed, which is down 169,987 or just under half a per cent.

Paul Hebden, director of WageSight, said: "The last few months have seen a sharp increase in the rate of cuts to payroll in the region, which largely reflects the picture nationally, with companies seemingly cutting back everywhere in the UK.
“However, the picture on wages remains better with salaries for those still in employment just managing to outpace inflation which stood at 4.1 per cent in June.”
Fall in employment for 10th consecutive month
July was the 10th consecutive month that employment fell in the region.
Over the past 12 months, employment fell in 10 months and rose in 2.
Median wages have been rising for four consecutive months.
Average monthly wage growth over the last three months was 0.32 per cent.
