A GLASS sculptor has made her return to an art gallery after nearly four decades.

Angela Thwaites is currently exhibiting at Chappel Galleries, near Colchester, for the first time since 1987.

Her last show at the Essex venue was only the gallery’s second-ever solo exhibition.

The artist, who had just returned from postgraduate studies in communist-era Prague at the time, studied under renowned glass artists Professor Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová.

She has since continued to develop her craft, and her latest exhibition features works cast from moulds created using a 3D printer.

Pieces on display include the largest work, Hortoculus, which measures 60cm in diameter and is priced at £10,000, and the smallest, Croissant, at just 3cm and priced at £75.

Ms Thwaites also has pieces on display in the gallery’s garden.

Her work is held in private and public collections in the UK and abroad.

Chappel Galleries has exhibited many well-known sculptors, including Geoffrey Clarke RA, his son Jonathan Clarke, Bernard Meadows, Roland Piche, Laurence Edwards and Ivor Roberts-Jones RA.

The exhibition, Fragile Worlds: Sculpture in Glass, runs until July 13.

The gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
