A FATHER-of-four was described as “middle management” in a scheme to distribute cannabis in Essex.

Leklan Cabey, 45, hired an Audi Q3 from an Enterprise car rental in London under the name of a person known to him, taking the car to Colchester, where he hired a second car.

When police officers stopped the vehicle in March last year, they found three phones - one of them containing videos of cannabis flavours being advertised.

A review of the phone revealed videos and voice notes relating to a number of strains of cannabis, including Guava and Gushers.

Cabey admitted in February to being concerned in the supply of a controlled class B drug.

James Earle, prosecuting, argued he played a leading role in the operation, which was located in Clacton.

Daniel Higgins, mitigating, said that while the defendant accepted he played a significant role, he described it as the defendant was “middle management”.

He argued Cabey was offered the drugs to then sell them to his customers, informing them of prices and quantity.

A previous conviction for robbery and dangerous driving left Cabey on licence for life, aggravating the offence.

Recorder Tony Badenoch told Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday the defendant gained a financial advantage, was operating in a chain and had an understanding of the size of the operation.

Cabey, previously of Links Road, Brent, London, was jailed for 15 months.

Considering he was “not a career criminal”, as the defence put it, and being a father to four children, Recorder Badenoch sentenced Cabey to 15 months imprisonment.

He will also have to pay £187 in a victim surcharge.

His co-defendant Anthony Watson, 32, of High Street, Walton, will appear before the court on June 5.
