Essex Police have made two arrests and seized four electric powered scooters and bikes, during a vehicle check in Colchester city centre.
Last weekend, officers from the Colchester City Centre Team conducted a vehicle check in the area.
As a result, two E-Scooters and two E-Bikes were seized.
Officers conducted one stop and search, and made two arrests after coming across "people who were wanted".
One arrest was for making off without payment, and the other was for criminal damage.
Officers also completed four reports for process, including offences of driving with no insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a license and failing to stop.
Police say they will seize and destroy illegal e-bikes and e-scooters which can put the public at risk.
The legal speed limit is 15mph but there have been reports of them travelling much faster.
Essex Police's website has explained the legalities around privately owned e-scooters.
It said: "It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters.
"This means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres."
