THE family of a teenage girl who died suddenly will open a hair and beauty salon in her memory as they fulfil her dreams.
Maddy Campbell was just 17 when she did not wake up on the morning of September 14, 2021.
Examinations carried out following her sudden death revealed she had a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which caused her heart to fail.
Maddy was born and raised in Colchester and went to primary school in Copford.
She then attended Honywood School in Coggeshall where she was well-liked.
This weekend, the family will open a hair and beauty salon in an effort to create a legacy in Maddy's memory.
Maddison's Hair and Beauty is located on Church Street, in Coggeshall, and will offer a range of treatments.
Maddy's father, Chris Campbell, from Colchester, decided to open the salon as it was his daughter's dream to own her own business.
While still at school, Maddy worked on Saturdays at a hair salon in Halstead.
"She was very talented and a had an amazing future in the industry.
"Maddy and I always spoke about her wanting her own hair and beauty business and I’m just trying create a legacy in her memory."
Mr Campbell plans to donate the salon profits to charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young - hoping to help fund heart screenings days.
He added: "Maddy’s mum has already organised three screening days to date, paid for by fundraising events.
"My hope is that the salon will be able to pay for at least one screening day per year.
"It’s very emotional and bittersweet to be at this point where Maddy’s dream is about to come true buts she’s not here to enjoy it."
The salon's grand opening will take place this Saturday, March 1, from 12pm to 2pm.
