A HISTORIC village pub which closed suddenly five years ago due to “unforeseen circumstances” is now up for sale.

The Red Lion, which is on the A120 at Marks Tey, announced its closure on social media in January 2020 and has been empty ever since.

In a post on social media at the time, the landlords said they were “very sad" to announce the closure and it was not a decision they had taken lightly.

They added they were grateful for customers’ support, “amazing memories” and lifelong friends.

Many residents expressed their sadness on Facebook and said the owners had revived the pub and made it a “community hub for all”.

The Grade II listed building is said to need refurbishment throughout.
