Essex Highways crews say they responded promptly to reports of flooding across the county and to clear affected areas and prevent further disruptions.

One team was called to Mersea Road (B1025) at the junction leading to the Silver Oyster Pub in Berechurch.

The flooding was reportedly caused by a blockage in the drains, believed to be from a bottle or similarly sized object.

The crew quickly jetted and cleared the drains, resolving the issue before moving on to another site nearby.

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “We carry out drain cleaning on all main roads across the county at least once per year.

“This summer we cleared a total of 24,633 drains and gullies across Essex, helping the road network to withstand harsh conditions this autumn and winter.

“Following heavy rainfall, as we’ve seen with Storm Bert, it can take some time for increased water levels to drain.

“We carry out additional cleansing and Jetting when necessary as issues are reported to us. We therefore encourage residents to get in touch through our online Tell Us tool at www.essexhighways.org/tell-us.”
